IPD Survey

IPD TEAMS FOR EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION AND INNOVATION

Michigan State University Research Team

Contractually followed Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is an emerging project delivery method in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. This project seeks to assess how communication behaviors and structures in AEC project teams that contractually follow IPD can contribute to the effective implementation of IPD as an innovative practice and overall project quality. You are being asked to participate in this research study that is funded by the National Science Foundation.

Vernon Miller, Ph.D., Dept. of Communication & Management.

Sinem Korkmaz, Ph.D., LEED® A.P., Construction Management Program.

Brian Manata, Ph.D. candidate, Communication.

Angelo Garcia, Ph.D. candidate, Construction Management.

PURPOSE OF RESEARCH

  • Assess innovation implementation in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) project teams.
  • Select participants recently or currently involved in a project following IPD contractually.
  • Gain insight into behaviors that contribute to effective coordination in IPD projects.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • You will be asked to answer a series of survey questions for research purposes.
  • Your participation in this study will take about 20 minutes.
  • The survey questions focus on the project’s communication climate, fit of various parties to the project, communication behaviors manifested during the project, and implementation effectiveness.
  • You need to answer the questions based on your experience in this project.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS

  • You will not directly benefit from your participation in this study, but your participation will contribute to a greater understanding of factors that contribute to or detract from IPD as an effective construction management process.
  • The results of this study will be shared broadly with those who develop IPD training materials.

POTENTIAL RISKS

  • There are no foreseeable risks associated with participation in this study.

PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY

  • Your responses to survey items will be confidential. For research purposes, the researchers will be able to identify your responses. No one outside the research team will know how you responded to any particular question.
  • Further, the researchers will not disclose any specific information about case studies or study participants to the maximum extent allowable by law. Any data presented will be presented in aggregate form.
  • A hard copy of survey results will be stored in a locked cabinet, and only the investigators have access to them.
  • The data will be stored for a minimum of three years after completion of the study.

  • Participation in this research is voluntary. You may discontinue participation at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled.
  • You may choose not to answer specific questions or to stop participating at any time.
