IT Project success survey

Thanks for taking the time (10 mins approx) to complete this survey, it’s much appreciated.

All responses are anonymous, for non-commercial use and in support of my MSc research project, which concerns the influence of prior IT capabilities and organisational factors on the cost and duration of IT projects.

There are only two basic criteria to bear in mind please before commencing this survey;

The questions relate to an IT project that you were directly connected to (in a business or IT capacity)
The project you were directly connected to, significantly exceeded it's budget and schedule , but retrospectively, it’s obvious what the reasons where for the overruns. (Sorry, but I'm only interested in projects that went over budget and schedule)

1. What was your direct role in relation to the IT project you have in mind? *This question is required.

2. How many employees were in your company at that time? *This question is required.

3. What was the initial project budget? (i.e. the initial estimate at the start of the project, not the eventual cost of the project) *This question is required.

4. How much more did the project increase by, in comparison to the initial budget? *This question is required. We are only looking at over budget or schedule projects , so the assumption is that the project you are bearing in mind for this survey, went over budget or schedule. Thanks for your consideration.

5. How much longer did the project take to complete in comparison to the initial estimate? *This question is required. Same assumption as the previous question, i.e. that you are thinking about an example of an over schedule or budget IT project. Thanks for your consideration.

6. What was your initial view of the project cost and duration estimate? (before the project commenced) *This question is required.

8. Before the project commenced, how did you rate the governance capability between IT and Business and vice versa. (Governance = Decision making, communication, vision, escalation, teambuilding, reporting) *This question is required.

9. At the time of the commencement of the project, how would you characterise the relationship between the IT department and the business/rest of the organisation in general ? *This question is required.

10. Was governance a factor in the cost and schedule overrun? *This question is required.

11. Regarding how the cost and duration estimates for IT projects are derived, how in your opinion was this conducted (for the IT project in question) *This question is required.
